Grenoble is situated in the south east of France and has about 150.000 inhabitants. It is one of the most important cities in the French Alpes (and has also hosted the winter Olympic games in 1968). It is the second city in the region of Rhône-Alpes, after Lyon. Grenoble is not only famous for its mountains that offer a panoramic view from every corner of its old streets, it is also an important university town.

By plane

Lyon International Airport, also known as Saint Exupéry or Satolas (www.lyon.aeroport.fr), is about 100 km from Grenoble. However it is well accessible by airport shuttle that takes you to the Railway station in Grenoble (runs every hour form the airport and takes 1 hour). Tickets: 22€ one-way, or 33€ return (valid for 2 months). You can find the schedule of the buses at http://www.faurevercors.fr/pdf/Horaires2010.pdf. From the Railway-station you can take Tram B to the conference venue or other trams to the town center.
Paris Charles De Gaulle international Airport (also known as the Roissy Airport). Please do not fly to ORLY airport! From Roissy Airport (all the 3 Temrinals0, you can take the Train (TGV) to Grenoble with one change (at Lyon). The tickets are available at the station at Terminal 1 or online via http://www.voyages-sncf.com/.
Grenoble Isère International Airport, also known as St Geoirs, about 40 km from Grenoble. This is a small airport. Coaches are available for 12.50€ one way/22€ return, the journey takes 35 minutes but they run only a few times a day. EasyJet and Ryanair offer flights To / From Grenoble Isère International Airport though.

By car

follow the highway from:

A46, Lyon
A49, Valence
A51, Aix-en-Provence (from south)

Once you get in Grenoble there is a "Park and Ride", a system operated by SEMITAG-parking, from where you can easily use the public transport.

By train

Several direct high speed trains (TGV) depart from Paris to Grenoble every day: it takes approximately 3 hours. Full price ticket is between 50€ and 100€ (one-way ticket).

Regional trains depart from Lyon (Part-Dieu station) to Grenoble, almost every hour from 5:30 am to midnight (5am to 10pm from Grenoble to Lyon). The journey takes around an hour and a half. Full price ticket costs 19 €. The train schedule sometimes includes buses. The price is the same, the duration is the same, they start at the same station and arrive at the same point.

How to get to the conference venue:

from the railway station: Tramway B (direction: Plaine des Sports)
from the town center: Tramways B &C (direction: Saint Martin d'Hères Condillac Universités)
in both cases get off at "Bibliotheques Universitaires" the building of Sciences PO is just in front of the tram stop.

L'Hôtel Splendid (**) 60€ / 70€

This hotel is situated in the calm section of the town center (travel time to the conference venue: approximately 25 minutes). The hotel offers a garden with a enclosed car park and a table tennis for your leisure. The tramway is located 150 m away; Two different room rates are available: 65 € (with shower) 70 € (with bath). Hôtel Institut (**) 60 €

Hotel is situated near the railway station. It is a small hotel with a familiar atmosphere. Breakfast is available at the hotel for 7.50 €. L'Hôtel Ibis Grenoble Centre (**) 90€

Hotel ibis is stiuated in the city centre and about 800 m from the railway station (travel time to the conference venue: approximately 25 minutes). L'Hôtel d'Angleterre (***) - 115 €

Nice Hotel with high standard rooms. This hotel is situated close to the town center. The tramway station is nearby (travel time to the conference venue: approximately 20 minutes).
